Patience & Steadfastness : Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153 – 154
Allah ﷻ reminds us in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:153):
“O you who believe! Seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the steadfast.”
This verse teaches that challenges are part of a believer’s journey, and the way through them is with ṣabr and ṣalāh.
Patience is more than waiting it is trusting Allah while staying disciplined and hopeful. Scholars describe three forms of ṣabr:
- In obedience: staying consistent in worship even when you feel lazy.
- In avoiding sin: resisting temptations that weaken the heart.
- In hardship: staying firm through stress, loss, academic pressure, or personal struggles.
The Imam encouraged students and members of staff to be steadfast and patient in their dealings as patience also reflects in how we handle deadlines, low motivation, misunderstandings, or emotional pressure without giving in to negativity.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “No one is given a gift better and more comprehensive than patience.” (Bukhari)
He also taught that when life became difficult, he would hurry to prayer. (Abu Dawud)
The promise at the end of the verse is powerful: Allah is with the patient meaning His support, protection, and mercy are with those who remain steadfast.
MSSN LASUSTECH urges students to respond to challenges with patience, strengthen our hearts with prayer, and trust that Allah’s help is closest when the test is greatest.
